Parhelion

Or a "sun Dog" was in the sky today.  Nice to have a rainbow without the rain!

Pic by my boss, lol.

I'm looking for a tutorial, have you seen it?

Ever notice how just about every store has a cute sundress for sale that looks like this? I tried on this dress at Old Navy yesterday. The dress was super cute, and a flattering shape, but the HOT PINK color was SO not me.

It's just a simple looking lined dress with thin straps, a ruffle, and elastic at the waist and at the top.  It looks easy enough to make, right? So, why is it that I haven't seen a tutorial for one of these yet?  I would love to make one, in a color other than hot pink obviously ;-)

So, dear internet readers, if you have seen a tutorial for this, or have made one of these puppies, I'm all ears!  I'm just wondering if there is some kind of trick to encase the elastic between the layers of the dress or something... hmmm.

How do you measure up?

Grosgrain featured this today on her blog, so I'm sure many of you have seen it.  But I'll repost here just in case (plus it will remind me to do this!).  I took my basic measurements a few summers ago when I was slightly slimmer, but I've never taken in depth ones like this.  It will be good (if not a bit depressing) to update.

Project: Mother's Day Cards

These are the Mother's Day cards I made this year, simple but cute.  I cut the flower, leaf, and central yellow part out of felt and sewed them to a blank card using thread that I doubled twice to make it thicker.  I put a button in the center and finished off the back by gluing on a piece of scrapbooking paper to cover my knots and stitching.

Link: DIY Smock Tutorial

I love smocks!  Putting one on really gets the creative-juices flowing.  Stitch and Boots has this adorable tutorial on how to make your own out of a discarded men's shirt. The mushrooms are so cute!

I would totally girly-up one of these with some ruffles or something on the bottom!  It's just like being in Elementary School art class again. :D

In Progress: New Look 6457

I'm working on this New Look dress to (hopefully) kick off a marathon of other projects.  The lady at the fabric counter at JoAnns talked me into a cotton print I was carrying around the store to think about, so I decided to put it to use sooner than later.  I've had this pattern in my stash for a long time but never used it, I picked it because it had pretty good reviews on Pattern Review and because it called for the amount of fabric I bought.

I decided on the view in white (but I'm not doing the ribbon trim on the skirt) and cut out a size smaller than my measurements called for, and I'm glad I did, since I still have about and inch or so of extra ease to take out of the back!  I also did a bodice lining out of muslin even though the pattern didn't call for one.  All I have left to do is sew on the skirt, place the zipper, and hem.  Stay tuned! :D
