Yay it's Friday again! It feels like time is going by so quickly this summer. I can't believe it's going to be AUGUST already! There's so much time and so little to do, wait, strike that, reverse it!
Just wanted to let all you plush lovers know that I've added penguins to the shop. Please note that these are going to be made by custom order so it might take a little longer to receive one than usual since I will need time to sew it before I ship it out! I can also do different body colors or w/e if you would prefer (and if I have that color on hand). Don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions or would like a different customized order (mouse, octo, red panda, etc.)
These time lapse videos were shot by my boyfriend while I was on vacation earlier this month. My grandparents came to visit so we were making feasts of food every day! If you want to learn more about making sushi rolls, check out this post.
Do you use reusable shopping bags? I try...sometimes, but I really need to do better. Oftentimes it's not that I want to use the plastic and paper bags at the store, but that I forgot to bring my own bag along! BUT, I would suspect that if I had adorable, reusable bags like these I'd never accidentally leave them behind!
Isn't summer the most delicious time of year? I get to eat fresh picked raspberries from my parents house, my friend Alicia is growing yummy veggies that I bought at the farmer's market, and there is finally enough basil grown to make homemade pesto! If you've never made pesto, it's sooooo easy and soooooo yummy!
Ok, so after being nailpolish abstinent for several years, I'm back full-swing! Being an art major generally uglifies your hands so pretty nails never lasted long and my summer job outlawed polish. But now I'm addicted you guys, it's not even funny. D:
So when I saw THIS awesomeness on F* Yeah Nail Art, I knew, "I MUST HAVE IT!"
Flakies might be old news to some of ya'll but I didn't know anything about them, the flakes turn different prismatic colors depending on the base coat and are just plain amazing. These photos from The Nailphile show the many variations of a single polish, Nubar 2010, on different base colors. I looked everywhere in my small town yesterday to hunt some down to no avail so I broke down and bought some online.
My nail-talented friend Nikki also got some totally amazing MAGNETIC POLISH. It's like a beautiful Magnadoodle on your fingers! What will they think of next, huh?
Are you going crazy with nail envy right now? I can't wait until my sparklies come in the mail!
ALSO, I got featured at MintChocolately, a cute little blog just starting out. So head over there and show some love!
The fashion forecasts are in and "elaborate art and daring designs" on nails are going to be the big thing this fall...at least according to NBC. What luck that my great friend Nikki just introduced me to an innovative nail system called Konad.
My nails after Nikki's expert touch
Konad and it imitators use metal plates with etched designs that you coat with the polish color of your choice. You then scrape off the excess and pick up the design with a rubber stamp and transfer it to your nail. It's a pretty simple process once you get the hang of it.
There is still time to enter the Adventure Time Giveaway! In fact, I'm going to extend the deadline for entries until Monday. I am going to be out of town for a wedding so I figured I'd give you all a little more time to complete an extra entry since I won't be around to prep any of the shipments anyway.
In honor of today's momentous occasion (i.e. the final installment in the Harry Potter film series) I have a very special friendship bracelet to show you. Wait, can you call something that you made for yourself a friendship bracelet? ...Anyway, I made this bracelet for myself circa Half-Blood Prince and still have it. You gotta represent!
I've enjoyed making knotted friendship style bracelets for about a zillion years. I remember one Christmas about an eon ago, my mom made my cousin and I little pouches with embroidery floss and safety pins in them for making bracelets. They are pretty easy to do (at least the simple patterns), the materials are cheap, they are easy to take with you (like knitting, crochet, and hand sewing), and are fun to give away.
I know lots of you guys are probably lined up outside your local movie theater by now in anticipation of the midnight release of the final HP flick, but some of us have to be boring and not go because we need to be responsible, working adults. Lame, right?
Well, if you need something to pass the time before you get your HP fix, can I remind you of this post I did a while back? Watch "Wizard People" if you haven't yet. You won't be disappointed!
Ok, I've never been great at styling my hair. I can do a ponytail and french braids, but ask me to do an up-do and I'm lost. Lucky for me my mom, and quite a few of my friends in HS and college, would do my hair for special events and stuff, but now that I'm an adult I need to have a few tricks that I can do myself, unless my boyfriend is willing to learn the art of hair design.
Recently I've been enjoying two little tricks and if you are a hair dummy like me, I hope they'll help you too. The first is Goody's Spin Pins. They are AMAZING. As a girl who was never at one with her bobby pins, I've never made a bun that wasn't just secured at the base with an elastic, which works, but you can see it and it always makes your hair stand away from your head, like a mushroom. The spin pins work great, you only need to twist them into a bun and they hold and don't show at all, it's like magic! The only drawback is that they are a little pricey, around $7 for a set of two but I found mine at a local grocery store for $4.50. I'm looking forward to using mine to do more hair stuff and maybe checking out the French twist thingy that Goody makes too!
The other cool trick I found was this video tutorial. I like curling my hair...well, not really, I like having curled hair. I'm lazy and I don't like how much time it takes to put in curlers or the potential for burns from a curling iron. This is literally the easiest way I've ever curled my hair overnight and the most comfortable. The drawback of this one is that the curls on the back of my head are weak to non-existent. You could always curl the back later or add curlers. Or like me, just figure "out of sight, out of mind" no one is going to be staring at the back of my head anyway!
I was out last week on vacation, but expect some new posts comin'-at-cha this week!
I also wanted to remind you all to enter my Adventure Time Giveaway that ends on Friday, and to remind you that the new Season premieres tonight on Cartoon Network!
