Project: Fabric Stamp

I've been sewing a lot of dresses lately and I thought it would be cool to make a label for my own "clothing line" to sew into my projects.

I used a linoleum block and a lino cut set from my brother and carved out this stamp in an evening.  I've been using acrylic paint with fabric medium in it to do the stamping.  I mix it up and then sponge it on the stamp.  Then I lay the fabric on top of the stamp and burnish it lightly with the back of a big spoon. Then I peel off the fabric and let it dry.

I think that plain cotton worked the best for transferring the image, but I made several in t-shirt knit so that the edges won't fray when I sew them in my projects.

What do you think!

  1. What a great alternative to a label. I looked into ordering labels awhile back but they were super expensive. Thanks for the tip!

  2. i really like this project.. and i love how you designed your label..
i actually had a bit of trouble with carving the linoleum.. i think linoleum might have been a bit old, so it was too hard to carve it easily.. so, i ended up painting 'mokosha' on my labels, using tiny brush.. but as soon as i get some better linoleum i gonna try this out again.. and gonna let you know how it turned out :)
